Students Create Mural for Victoria House
Health & Social Care students brought along materials to put the board together with, and worked alongside the Centre’s service users to decide on the design and patterns for the Easter-themed mural.
Nirmala Singhvi, Manager at Victoria House Day Centre, said: "The students have been absolutely brilliant. All the people here are living with dementia and it’s great for them to interact with young people.
"I’ve been so impressed, the main thing is the empathy the students have shown. I can see them going on to have great careers in healthcare.”
Students visited the day centre as part of a GAP experience. GAP is West Herts College’s sector-leading work experience programme, where students team up with local employers to develop their transferable workplace skills and help them get ready for the world of work.
Student Catlin Ely said: "It’s been really fun getting to know everyone. It’s been so interesting hearing about their life stories and getting involved in arts & crafts activities.
"Once I progress through College I hope to work in a care setting for elderly people or children.”
