Windle Court care team hops on Dementia Virtual Tour bus
Windle Court residential care home located in South Woodham Ferrers, Essex, has been working in partnership with Holy Trinity Church South Woodham Ferrers, in the run up to the launch of their new dementia-friendly church service which starts in September this year.
As part of the preparation for the new service, especially organised to be suitable for those living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, the local South Woodham Ferrers church hosted a dementia training session; Training2Care’s Virtual Dementia Tour, a research based immersive learning experience created for people to gain an insight into the effects of dementia – all on a specially kitted-out bus!
South Woodham’s Holy Trinity Church kindly invited staff at Windle Court care home, a residential care home with 76 bedrooms specialising in 24-hour dementia care for its residents, to join them for the innovative training session.
Runwood Homes Senior Living provides regular training for staff and Runwood’s professional care teams are keen to expand on their knowledge, open to new ways of learning such as this fantastic interactive method, resulting in gaining further understanding as to how dementia can affect senses and perception. Windle Court care home staff commented that it was the ‘best training ever’, ‘it was amazing’ and another member of the South Woodham care home team commented that they’d experienced ‘a lightbulb moment’. Mulberry Court in Luton were also visited by the Training2Care Dementia Virtual Tour; read the article here.
