Walking Group at Victoria House - Join us!

Victoria House Day Care centre in Watford, have started a leisurely walking club for older people.

The photos below includes staff, residents and carers from Victoria House and another nearby Runwood Homes’ facility, Greenbanks residential care home, both situated in Greenbank Road, Watford, Hertfordshire.

If you are nearby, living within the local Watford community, and looking for something to occupy yourself and pass the time, why not join in with our friendly walking group for some regular exercise and good conversation?

Victoria House and Greenbanks are both Watford based services catering to the needs of our elderly. Greenbanks provides 24-hour, person-centred residential care on a long and short term/respite basis, for older people including those living with dementia.

Not only are their great health benefits to outdoor walks, service users and our care teams also aim to break down barriers and make new friendships. Encouraged by seeing how positive life in a care home can be from others on the walking group, new volunteers may been found, through meeting other people on their travels. Stress levels can visibly decrease when out walking and any tension that can be associated with dementia is often dramatically reduced for some time after. Families are often seen joining in on the sessions, so it's enjoyable for the whole family.

People who are not able to take part in the actual walking can still enjoy the experience from the comfort of their wheelchair. They still enjoy the company, the fun, the reminiscing, meeting new people and the sights sounds and sensations of the outdoors.
