Residents celebrate Burns Night at Windmill House

Residents at Windmill House, in Wymondham, enjoyed a day packed full of fun, themed activities to celebrate Burns Night on Tuesday 25th January.

A highlight of the day included a visit from Norwich Pipe Band member, Allan Downie, who performed especially for residents. Allan played familiar tunes in the gardens and right outside the front entrance, so all the residents had the chance to see and enjoy the performance.

Throughout the day, residents also participated in several themed activities, including making hats, sprigs of heather and baking and decorating cakes and shortbread. They also enjoyed reminiscing, speaking fondly on the memories they have of Scotland, such as memorable holidays and trips. Some of the home’s residents also spent time living in Scotland, so enjoyed the day’s events which reminded them of their time there and loved the opportunity to chat to others about their experiences.

The local Morrisons store in Wymondham also made a generous donation of shortbread too, which was a lovely surprise.

Wellbeing Lead at Windmill House, Fran Annis, helped to organise the event and commented:

I asked Allan Downie, a member of the Norwich Pipe Band to perform for our residents as part of their celebrations for the day and I was so pleased that he was able to. All of us at the home really enjoyed the performance and one resident said it brought back many happy memories of living in a small village in Scotland where people left their doors open and everyone stopped for a chat. It was great to see all our lovely residents singing and clapping along. The children at the primary school next door and our neighbours loved being able to hear the bagpipes too, so it was great be able to share in the celebrations.”

Everyone at Windmill House would like to say thank you to Allan and the Norwich Pipe Band for his generous donation of time and talent.

Windmill House, part of the Runwood Homes Group, is a residential care home in Wymondham, Norfolk, with 57 private bedrooms, relaxing lounges and charming dining areas.
