Dementia café a huge success with the Halstead community at Blackthorns care home
Blackthorns care home, operated by Runwood Homes, hosted a highly successful dementia café to the Halstead community on Tuesday the 9th of August.
The dementia café is a safe and supportive service for residents, staff, family members and the local community to socialize with one another and access information on dementia.
Director of Wellbeing and Dementia Services for Runwood Homes, Paul Gaskell, presented the session to the wider community to discuss the causes of dementia and how to reduce the risks of dementia. He also discussed the different realities and the importance of communication.
One member of the community commented on the session and said: It has been great to finally understand what dementia is, and I’ve got a much better idea of how to support my family member now.”
Home Manager for Blackthorns care home, Jo Robbin-Coker reflected on the positive success of the event and said: ‘I’m so happy with the success of the dementia café at Blackthorns home. We wanted to create a safe and supportive network for residents, families and the local community to access information on dementia and feel this has been a great success. We would love to continue this in the future and want to thank everyone for their involvement in this year’s event.’
