Nursery children in Studley build intergenerational connections with Runwood Homes residents

Residents at Four Acres care home in Studley are thrilled to be receiving two-weekly visits from Brights Kids Nursery.

Four Acres care home is operated by Runwood Homes, with a ‘Good’ CQC rating.

The fortnightly visits at the Studley care home offers residents the opportunity to interact with the children and join in a variety of fun games and nursery rhymes.

For the small groups of children aged 3 to 4 years old, the interaction helps to improve their confidence and develop their communication skills by building those connections with the residents and staff at Four Acres care home.

At Runwood Homes, facilitating the connections between young and old makes a huge difference to residents. The opportunity to engage with the younger generation is beneficial for the residents, boosting morale and offering a great social occasion for all to enjoy.

Diane Wood, Wellbeing Lead at Four Acres, said: ‘’When we were presented with the opportunity to work with Bright Kids Nursery, we automatically said yes as we know how important it is for the residents. It’s great to see them chatting and see the residents faces light up when the children come to visit.”

Lisa Hulse, Manager at Bright Kids Nursery, said: “Visiting Four Acres every fortnight is such a lovely opportunity for us here at Bright Kids as the children can meet new people and have the social experience of being out and about in the community. COVID has had a massive impact on us all, but especially the children as they were not able to interact or meet others during this time, and for some this has been their whole life. So, getting to visit Four Acres gives the children the chance to explore the world around them by being able to get out of nursery, but also has really developed their relationship making, and social skills. The children all love getting to play catch with the residents, share their experiences with them and are always willing to show off their singing during song time. As a company we really enjoy the visits too as we can see the difference it makes to both our children and the residents, and we all always leave with a heartwarming feeling and a great big smile on our face.
