Runwood Homes proudly welcomed ‘Our Dementia Choir’ to Braywood Gardens care home

Residents at Braywood Gardens care home, in Nottingham, were thrilled to receive a visit from representatives of ‘Our Dementia Choir’, formed by well-known presenter and English actress, Vicky McClure.

Our Dementia Choir began as part of a documentary created for BBC, formed by Vicky McClure. She brought together a choir of people, all living with dementia in her hometown of Nottingham, to explore whether music can make a measurable difference to their lives.

Representatives from ‘Our Dementia Choir’ visited the home to interact with residents and engage them in a variety of uplifting songs.

The care home team and residents performed four songs;  She’ll Be Coming Around The Mountain, All Things Bright and Beautiful, We’ll Meet Again and Pack Up Your Troubles. Afterwards, everyone came together for a spot of tea, coffee, cake and a good natter.

The positive emotional benefits and community bonds have made a real difference to the lives of the residents at Braywood Gardens, and now the choir meet every week to keep their spirits high.

Deputy Manager for Braywood Gardens, Leona, commented on the day:

“We were so happy to welcome the visit from ‘Our Dementia Choir’ and it went exceptionally well. It was so lovely to see our residents participating in the choir and seeing the joy that the music brought to everyone.”
