Expert curry masterclass held at Sheffield Hallam University for Runwood Homes chefs
Runwood Homes chefs from around the country were invited to a masterclass from Monas Curry at Sheffield Hallam University.
Ten chefs were selected to partake in an exciting masterclass to demonstrate the versatility of Mona’s Curry Base, by creating a Vodka Penne, Manchurian Tofu, Chicken Curry Pot Pie, Butter Chicken, Classic Karahi, and a take on Bolognese.
The chefs were given a selection of ingredients to choose from to create their own dishes using the base sauce.
Three Runwood Homes chefs took home the crown for their fantastic creations.
Third place was Michael from Graysford Hall, who presented a vegetable curry with lemon and coriander rice. Second place was Craig from Lower Meadow, who presented a chicken tikka lasagna served with garlic and coriander naan bread. Taking the top spot in the masterclass was Anil from Liberty House, who presented a spicy prawn pasta with a piquant pepper salsa.
For achieving first place in the competition, Anil was awarded a themed curry day with expert chef, Mona, to celebrate with the residents and team at Liberty House care home.
Chris Williams, Group Hospitality Manager at Runwood Homes, said: “What a fantastic day we had at Sheffield Hallam University this week for our Monas Curry masterclass, followed by an IDDSI refresher training and food waste workshop from Jamie Clews of Robotcoupé.
It was outstanding to see all of our participants’ hard work and dedication at the curry masterclass and want to congratulate all of our winners for their achievements. A great day had by all and a big thank you to Mark Taylor from Bloom food service for organizing the session and the wonderful staff at Sheffield Hallam University catering department for helping throughout the day.”
Mona, from Monas Curry, said: “It was great to see the Runwood Homes chefs create their dishes using Monas Base. I honestly was taken aback by the creativity and passion they all had for food. Some of the dishes created by both the experienced and new chefs would have never entered my mind, I also learnt a lot from the masterclass. To top it off, they all really gave it a go and their passion for cooking was demonstrated with how close the scores were.
A massive thank you to Runwood Homes, Bloomfood service and Robotcoupé for organising the masterclass.”
