Braywood Gardens care home launches first ever community book club

Carlton care home, operated by Runwood Homes, has launched its first ever book club for residents, relatives, and staff.

The book club was introduced to the home as a perfect opportunity to make new friends, share ideas and bond over a good book.

Running on the last Thursday of every month, the book club will be an important monthly event that will encourage new interactions with residents, relatives and staff and break away from the usual day-to-day activities. It is time for everyone to disconnect and share intellectual conversation with one another.

Last week’s book of choice was ‘My Darling Daughter’ by JP Delaney, a novel that explores what happens when an adopted teenager contacts her birth parent out of the blue and Anna’s mother, Susie and husband, Gabe, respond to her cry for help.

Home Manager, Leanne Armstrong, said: “The launch of our first event last Thursday was so important to bring us all together as one family and friend unit. We learnt things about each other that would not necessarily be talked about in our day-to-day meetings at the home. Relatives can join this group and become a part of something that will unite us all and bond over new activities.”
