Residents at Ivy Court care home have come face-to-face with some magnificent birds of prey

Ivy Court care home in Balby, Doncaster, welcomed a selection of owls and a hawk from Wise Owl Birds of Prey.  

The residents at the care home in Doncaster had an unforgettable experience with the impressive birds, getting up close and personal with a variety of different animals.

As part of the animal therapy session, residents learnt about the history and characteristics of the birds, as well as other interesting facts about the calming creatures.

In the selection of animals, residents were able to learn more about Orville the little owl, Storm the Harris Hawk, Willow the Eurasian Eagle Owl and Gizmo the Southern White-Faced Owl.
Based between Huddersfield & Wakefield and covering most of Yorkshire & Greater Manchester, the Wise Owl Bird of Prey Rescue & mobile display team is a family run business offering a very personal, informal, educational & professional bird of prey experience.

Brenda, a resident at the care home, said: “It was lovely to see these beautiful creatures and to stroke their soft feathers.”

Gail Walker, Wellbeing Lead at Ivy Court, said: “The residents and their visitors all adored meeting the variety of birds at the home. It’s a real hands-on experience for everyone and was very educational to understand more about the different types of birds, some of which we learned, are native to the UK.  We want to thank the organisation for coming down for the day and look forward to welcoming them back to Ivy Court in the future.”
