Resident Errol Murphy has Marina boat named after him

Carrickfergus Marina celebrated its 30th Anniversary and made it a day to remember for a resident of our Carrickfergus Manor Home, Mr Errol Murphy.

Errol was on site from the inception of Carrickfergus Marina.

Once boats started to arrive Errol was always on hand to assist, give advice and friendly abuse when required, just like the old Ships Bosun he was, prior to joining Carrick Borough Council.

Errol was happy to share his nautical skills, giving advice on rope work, splicing and knots.

It was only on the occasion of Errol's retirement did the Marina truly come under the control of Carrickfergus Council.

In recognition of his service of 21 years he was presented with a plaque which will be mounted on the Marina's new Work Boat, naming the vessel "The Errol Murphy."

Alderman Jim Brown who made the presentation endorsed the hope that Errol and his family will understand the appreciation by the Council of his outstanding contribution. When the plaque is mounted it will be a constant reminder of Errol's dedication and commitment.

Errol and the whole family were overwhelmed by the warm welcome and reception they received and it certainly gave Errol a wonderful day to remember.

Thank you Carrickfergus Council.
