Residents take to the garden to discuss their flowers at Blackthorns
Residents of Blackthorns care home in Halstead, Essex, loved spending their time outside in their garden when the sun was shining. Residents and carers had a wonderful time discussing the different types of flowers with each other. There are many health benefits from spending time outdoors, especially with dementia patients, as fragrant and vibrantly coloured plants provide excellent sensory simulation, and the vitamin D from the natural light is very important for good health.
For residents with dementia, time in the garden helps them to feel relaxed and calm by having access to an open and safe environment. From encouraging exercise, to providing an activity to share with carers and family, the benefits of spending time in the garden are immeasurable for our residents.
