Resident at Broomhills in Essex gets teddy bear for person-centred care assistance.
Staff at Broomhills care home in Rochford, Essex, were placing information in bedrooms regarding each resident’s keyworkers when they thought of an innovative way to assist resident Maureen, who is blind. As Maureen is blind and cannot read brail, staff gifted Maureen a Build-a-Bear bear, which they could record a message on so Maureen could replay it. The message provides information on who Maureen’s key worker is and how to get assistance if needed. As well as being practical, the gift meant a lot to Maureen and she was incredibly grateful for such a thoughtful gift.
The initiative shows how we concentrate on person-centred care, taking into account each and every one of our resident’s and their needs and wishes, which is at the heart of everything we do.
