Cherry Tree Lodge wins Breath of Fresh Air Competition
A while ago we posted about our residents kick-starting their Breath of Fresh Air Competition. To win, residents had to sow 6 different packets of seeds, successfully grow them and then guess the fruits (or vegetables!) of their labour.
We now have a winner! Congratulations to residents at Cherry Tree Lodge, our care home in Whitnash, Warwickshire. Out of over 70 Runwood care homes across the UK, residents at Cherry Tree Lodge were the first to correctly identify all six fruit and vegetables that they were given to grow from seeds.
Pictured below:
A – Tomatoes guessed by Kath Noonan
B – Carrots guessed by Ian Ballantyne
C – Pumpkins guessed by Eileen Pailing
D – Beetroot guessed by Elsie Lloyd Thomas
E – Butternut Squash guessed by Florence Betty Bates
F – Leeks guessed by Ian Ballantyne
Cherry Tree Lodge will receive £100 to spend on their garden, outings or for extra equipment for residents to enjoy.
Gardening is a favourite past time of many of our residents. The Breath of Fresh Air Competition aims to spark conversation, welcome engagement as well as exercise in the garden. It’s dementia-friendly too; residents will feel a sense of wellbeing whilst reminiscing and communicating with their peers and carers on this familiar subject.
We have been so lucky with this fantastic weather – it’s certainly made for perfect growing conditions. Keep a look out for our next summertime competition at Runwood Homes, Blooming Marvellous!
