Jayne Herring - Dementia Services Manager

Jayne Herring - Dementia Services ManagerMy name is Jayne Herring and I have been a Dementia Services Manager for Runwood Home's since April 2015. My role is to support and develop my eleven allocated homes within the Essex area.

I started my career within social care in 2006 as a support worker in a nursing home to support my return to education studying psychology at the University of Essex. I instantly fell in love with contributing to the difference I was making to the lives of the individuals I supported. This was the first chapter in my journey. Since this point I have worked with teenagers with acquired brain injuries, adults with a learning disability, and both younger and older adults living with dementia. I have worked in many roles during my career including; support worker, rehabilitation leader, senior team leader to managing a day centre for a charity supporting adults living with young onset dementia. This was the point that I realised that I was actively contributing to supporting younger people to live well in spite of their dementia.

This has led me to where I am today, and the knowledge I gained within the charity continues as I am the specialist in young onset dementia for Runwood Homes. I consider myself very fortunate to be a part of the team which enables me to pass on my knowledge and the experience I have gained to the staff within the homes. I strongly believe that it is possible to live well with dementia, being treated with the upmost dignity and respect.
