Residents at Jubilee Court have a special summer
Residents at Jubilee Court care home have really been enjoying themselves recently, with visits from National Citizen Service volunteers to celebrating residents’ 70th birthdays with a big party!
During August Jubilee Court welcomed a small group of volunteers from the NCS as part of their social action project. The children, aged 16-17, volunteered to give up some of their summer holidays by helping residents revamp the Jubilee Court garden – and they did a fantastic job! They began by fundraising over £60 by bag packing in order to purchase gardening supplies and flowers, then they started their hard work. From repainting benches to redecorating and replanting in the garden, the volunteers really got involved – and so did the residents! Gardening is a great hobby, especially for those suffering with dementia, and provides a lot of health benefits.
Some of the volunteers spoke about their time at Jubilee Court, saying "We wanted to raise awareness about elderly people who experience loneliness as it has a major impact on their health. We really enjoyed our time there and meeting the residents, and we would love to come back and visit the residents and their lovely new garden.”
The fun continued through to September when the care home celebrated a resident’s 70th birthday party – complete with cake, dancing, and even Bollywood dancers to get the residents up on their feet! Family and friends joined their relatives to celebrate, making birthday cards, playing games, and even got their groove on too.
