Leawood Manor & Ashwood care homes team up with National Citizen Service

Leawood Manor and Ashwood residential care homes are both lucky enough to be visited by young volunteers of the government-funded National Citizen Service (NCS) programme this summer, to give their time and spend time in the garden with our care home residents to help improve their outdoor living spaces. The NCS is an organisation set up for young people to take on new challenges and meet new friends, getting outside of the classroom and into the community.

The team of 11 green-fingered Leawood Manor volunteers, all aged between 16 and 17, worked hard to give the outdoor space at Leawood Manor a real spruce up as part of their NCS initiative’ Phase 3; Social Action. The kind and giving team, who brought joy and laughter to our Leawood Manor residents in West Bridgford, also raised a fantastic £350 for the project! On completing their mission, the NCS volunteers commented, "Seeing the reactions of the residents was truly humbling and something we won't forget."

Ashwood’s NCS volunteers are well underway with their gardening project too. Plants, flowers and shrubs have been kindly donated to Ashwood care home in Ware as part of the NCS initiative which the team have been focussing on planting. They’ll also be giving a fresh lick of paint to garden furniture, giving a new lease of life to the outdoor woodwork at Ashwood residential care home.

Welcoming young volunteers within our residential care home settings helps to bridge the generation gap, greatly benefitting both groups of people.
