Mayor presents Memory Walk donation to Alzheimer’s Society
Mayor Cllr Mrs Maureen Stockwood has presented a £600 cheque to the Alzheimer’s Society for October’s Rushcliffe Memory Walk and from donations at a local care home.
The amount was raised thanks to some of the 300 people who took part in the event at Rushcliffe County Park, including some of residents of Leawood Manor Care Home.
The fund raising effort, organised by Rushcliffe Clinical Commissioning Group, in partnership with Rushcliffe Borough Council inspired those young and old to raise funds.
The Mayor joined residents at Leawood Manor, and Manager Zimran Alam, to present the cheque to the charity’s Stakeholder Relations Officer John Kemp.
She said: "What a fabulous amount of money these residents have raised for this very important cause.
"The atmosphere at the Memory Walk was buzzing with hundreds in attendance, highlighting how many are affected by Alzheimer’s and how many generous local residents we have.”
Mr Alam joined the Mayor in his praise of the residents’ efforts.
He said: "We are very proud of our residents that took part in the Rushcliffe Memory Walk and are so happy with the amount of money they raised.
"This is a cause that is very close to our hearts and we strive to take part in as many fund raising activities as possible.”
Mr Kemp said: "I was delighted to hear that residents of Leawood Manor took part in the Memory Walk and helped to raise this incredible donation.
"We are the only UK charity investing in research into dementia care, cause, cure and prevention so every penny of the money raised is making sure we can be there for people affected by dementia.”
