Low Furlong care home in Shipston-on- Stour has FaNs!

Low Furlong in Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire, want to challenge the perception of care home life and facilitate a greater understanding of the everyday happenings in their home.

Low Furlong is described as magical place, where people laugh, love and live life on a daily basis, supported by an inspirational group of staff and family members, who go the extra mile to do the little things, that often go unnoticed, but that make a real difference to a residents day.

Low Furlong has proudly partnered with the My Home Life ‘Care Home FaNs’ (Friends and Neighbours) programme network and is the first care home in Warwickshire to join a nationwide movement supporting care homes to open their doors and develop relationships with local communities and help residents feel that they belong.

By working locally with their FaNs businesses and organisations, Low Furlong hopes to continue reducing the fear of care homes and enrich the lives of all who live, work and visit them.

A recent celebration of the FaNs initiative, saw the homes official FaNs awarded with a certificate of involvement. These include the local church, Pharmacy to my door, Shipston Proms Committee, the Mayor of Shipston, Dan Scobie, and the Rotary Club.

Low Furlong, operated by Runwood Homes Ltd, would like to thank the Shipson Proms Committee, and the business and local organisations who have signed up as FaNs of Low Furlong, and who have already given so much. Thanks also to FaNs organiser, Jennifer Lindfield at My Home Life UK, City University of London, who is continuing to support Low Furlong’s endeavour.

Our residents have rich histories and life knowledge to share with others, and those of Low Furlong are a valued resource to the Shipston and wider communities. They have fought in wars, worked as land girls, worked in the old Low Furlong care home, been mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters, and despite any hindrance of age they are writing the next chapters of their lives with us every day. They are having magic moments of fun, and enjoying meaningful human connections with others in the community every day.
