October activity update from Rose Court in Ballymena, County Antrim.
Residents at Rose Court care home in Ballymena have been keeping busy the past few weeks, including an autumn arts and crafts session, breakfast club, a trip to their local Dogs Trust for pet therapy and hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning.
Residents had a great time at their Macmillan Coffee Morning, complete with a delicious selection of cakes, as well as tea and coffee. Residents gathered together to show their support for cancer patients and acknowledge all the hard work that Macmillan Cancer Support do.
During their arts and crafts session, residents painted some beautiful autumn leaves and trees with an array of colours which can be proudly hung around the home to show off the residents’ talents. Arts and crafts sessions allow for residents to take part in simulating, creative activities and encourages conversations of their favourite memories about autumn.
For breakfast club, residents devoured a lovely cooked classic English breakfast and had a great time chatting over breakfast and reminiscing together. Socialising between residents is important to make them feel at home and comfortable, and it gives them the opportunity to talk about their lives with one another.
Staff also took residents to the local Dogs Trust centre where they could spend time with some puppies for pet therapy. Pet therapy is widely recognised as a beneficial treatment for seniors with mental, physical and emotional health concerns. Even a few hours at a time with an animal can help stave off depression and loneliness, and even lower blood pressure and reduce cholesterol.
