Residents at Rosedale Court in Rayleigh, Essex, enjoy doing Virtual Reality activities
Who says the older generation are resistive to new technology?
Rosedale Court introduced the VR goggles to residents recently, including a range of exciting movies and documentaries for them to enjoy. Residents loved watching the underwater documentaries, walking the desert and riding thrilling rollercoasters.
The VR goggles were also used by residents who are limited to their beds, which has allowed them to get involved and participate in the excitement, and ensure that they do not feel left out.
Similarly, the VR goggles are a brilliant device which allows those suffering with dementia to reminisce and recall early memories, such as travelling back to where they got married, or climb mountains or paint, all without leaving the comfort of their home.
Virtual reality is emerging as a useful tool to bring about positive change for many, including the elderly. From reducing loneliness to transporting them to far-flung places, without the need to travel, VR is enhancing the lives of senior citizens across the globe.
Rosedale Court is an 81 bed care home situated in Rayleigh, Essex. This spacious home provides expert care for older people, including those living with dementia and those requiring general nursing.
