Residents get stuck in for ‘National Arts in Care Homes’ Day at Windle Court in Chelmsford, Essex and Glenabbey Manor in County Antrim!
On Tuesday September 24th, residents at both Windle Court and Glenabbey Manor got involved in some arts and crafts as part of ‘National Arts in Care Homes’ day.
At Windle, some residents had some great art pieces to display, however the home did not have anywhere that already existed to put them. Staff and residents took this opportunity to make a display which was very well received by everyone.
Staff at Glenabbey Manor in County Antrim invited children from two local primary schools to join the residents in making some arts and crafts - it was a huge success! The children painted rocks with the residents and have hidden the rocks around the home for other residents to find as a nice surprise.
Art can be a great activity for those living with dementia to express themselves, including drama, dance and music. Staff at Windle Court said “We all felt the day was a complete success. Thank you to everyone who took part in our exhibition and the willingness from residents to show off their work.”
